Explore part of the island of Hispaniola on this fantastic excursion that takes you on a cultural journey to the province of La Romana.
You will have a unique opportunity to learn about baseball, which is the national sport in the Dominican Republic, visit the Francisco A. Micheli baseball stadium in La Romana and see the kids training right outside. La Romana is the birthplace of major league players such as Fernando Abad (Houston Astros), Antonio Alfonseca (Philadelphia Phillies) and Samuel Deduno (Minnesota Twins).
Next you will visit Casa de Campo and its famous replica of a Mediterranean European village, Altos de Chavon. You will see the Saint Stanislaus church where Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Priesley got married in 1994, visit the Taino museum and learn about the first people who lived on the island before Christoper Columbus arrived.
Next up is lunch, which you will have as you go sailing on a riverboat on the Chavón River where the movies Apocalypse Now, Rambo and Jurassic Park were filmed. You will enjoy good meal with seafood salad, grilled lobster, rice and vegetables. An open bar is included with water, soft drinks, beer and rum.
After lunch, it is time to continue with a visit at La Flor Dominicana cigar factory where you will learn about how the tobacco plants are nurtured and cigars are hand rolled. You will also see the rollers make cigars and have the opportunity to buy cigars and other souvenirs.
The last stop is at the cathedral, Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, in the city of Higuey, which is an important part of the Dominican Republic and the site for the annual pilgrimage which happens every January 21.
